A lot of movies are like that, memorable for a brief sequence but otherwise pretty phhhfffffffftttt. Splendor In The Grass, Ben Hur, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Saving Private Ryan...

Overall, Butterfield 8 is not a great movie. The best of it is the first 20 minutes of Liz in that exquisite slip!

I confess: never saw Butterfield 8. My mom did take me to see "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" when I was six (6! WTF???)

Seems to me she totally dom'd him. The way she worked him over in that slip, and he just took it. I'd have had her on that couch!

I think he did actually play the piano! I'm sure that would be some fun research!

Did Eddie Fisher actually play the piano? I wonder...anyhow, this makes me want to dig into the history of slip-scenery in the cinema. Probably lots of Pre-Hayes Code stuff.

Yes she was! Did you know the piano player in the slip scene was her real life hubby at the time, Eddie Fisher?
