5 FEMALE SINGERS
1 - DIAMANDA GALAS
I feel ashamed about how this artist is not worldwide known as the greatest female singer ever. From the mid 70's, when she started, Diamanda always has offered to us her peculiar vision of how deranged yet still fragile our human race is. From her 1982 album "The Litanies of Satan" until the recent works in contemporary art and neoclassical music, her voice still stands, terrifying and beautiful. Thank you Diamanda.
Recommended song: "Tragouthia Apo To Aima Exoun Fonos" from the 1984 album "Diamanda Galas", dedicated to the victim of the Tlatelolco massacre in 1968 -->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkYcMq0Z7Lk
2 - MATANA ROBERTS
I could not believe my ears when i first heard Matana Roberts. A woman playing sax in the jazz scenario... Really?!? Then i realize that her music is beyond jazz, beyond that fake jazz played by suited gemtleman with big smiles on their face. There's nothing to smile in Matana's music, there's so much struggles and feelings in that sax, and her voice... Her voice goes straight to your soul like a punch in the nuts. Such a terrible yet beautiful punch.
Recommended song: "Pov Piti" -->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKVq4_lBgzY
3 - JOANNA NEWSOM
It is impossible to not fall in love with Joanna. A blonde angel playing an harp with the most beautiful, unique voice in the world. It seems like she puts a spell on the listener: once you land your ear on one of her songs you can't help going out with your mind and soul, it's like an heavenly hurricane. That's why i love Joanna: besides she's achingly beautiful, her music grabs you and take your sorry ass in a better place, leaving you breathless.
Recommended song: "Sawdust and Diamonds" from the 2006 album "Ys", which i cannot describe with human words (well, at least in english)-->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfdK_d7IPjM
4 - EMILIE AUTUMN
Try to figure out how it would be a mash-up between Nine Inch Nails and Johann Bach. Well, i'm pretty sure that it would sound just like Emilie Autumn. This Chicago based violinist amazed me from the first album, but with her second release (Opheliac, 2006) she reached the maximum in terms of what classical music can give to nowadays pop culture. That album has an extreme goth substrate together with tons of eighteen century references (Paganini, Corelli), aggrotech beats and an 80's feeling that every decent industrial album should have. A must for those who's searching for high quality music with electronic drum beats and classical instruments. Btw, she's hot as fuck.
Recommended song: "Liar" from the 2006 album "Opheliac", perfect exemple of what i was talking about -->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r2ywSxuYKE
5 - AMANDA PALMER
I will not talk about Amanda. She means way too much for me.
Thanks Amanda.
Recommended song: "Ampersand" from the "Who killed Amanda Palmer?" album. Just poetry. And life.-->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qirAVqkdfog
