So I am a pedant

I get loads of messages on here, as it would seem, so do most if not all, other women. What drives me insane, is the seeming inability of English speakers to use their own language. Sending messages that I have to (should I have the inclination) dechyper, is a waste of your time and mine. Text speak is for sending texts and not for writing messages, that to me, don't make sense. I do realise that my spelling is not the best, and that makes me some what of a hypocrite. However at least I do try to make myself understood. Rant over.

Not a pedant at all. The decline in grammar, the use of text speak, and the truly dreadful destruction of ANY ability to spell, is truly shocking

I could not agree more. Telephones will.become the bane of the English language if we are not careful

I totally agree with you there all this text speech and meaningless abbreviations that make no sense at all, what ever happened to good old fully written messages

to KinkyOneOfTwo : language is an evolving thing and we need to be fluid with it. But give folk a chance to understand by using punctuation; is just manners after all. I find English fascinating, twice as many words as French and yet sometimes words fail me, or do not seem adequate to the task of explaining thoughts and feelings. I got beyond wondering about lazy English a bit a go, I don;t try to understand anymore I just ignore. Contact me with u 2 4 et. al. in the sentence and no response given

Love this, being a pedant is something to be proud of. We have language to communicate and if some individuals have neither the intelligence or ability to 'string a few words together, articulately for others to understand', it does make you wonder about them as a person...or is that just me? x
