My first laser hair removal
Yesterday, I had my first laser hair removal session. I was really excited sitting in the waiting room. I kept thinking of how long i have been shaving, my first time was when I was 12. I was already growing a mustache and I didn't like it at all. It looked funny on a boy and made me feel uncomfortable. After shaving, I was really happy with the results and hoped it would take a long time to come back but it returned much quicker than I wanted. So began my association with the razor. I really don't like the hair on my face and this laser is going to solve my problem. The nurse who helped me was so gorgeous, it made it really easy to follow her to the laser room. She told me about each thing she was doing and what kind of feeling to expect. She handed me some glasses to protect my eyes and had me sit on the table. First, she put a cooling gel on my face, which felt quite refreshing. That first bolt of laser energy was a bit of a shock. It definitely gets your attention, but it is not an overwhelming sensation. She started on the side of my face, next to my sideburns and followed a line down, pulling the trigger and unleashing the power of light to burn all that nasty hair away. One thing that surprised me was the stink of burning hair, yucky! The nurse called it the smell of success which helped me a little bit. She kept going down my face, starting at the top and working her way down towards my neck, making lines of burned out follicles. She stopped at the chin area and moved to the other side and continued the same process. By this time the pain was a little much, so she gave me a couple of stress balls which gave me something else to think about. Next she started on my chin and under my mouth. This hurt a little bit more but it was still tolerable. She saved the best for last, the upper lip which hurt a lot more than the rest. This part made me cry, even with stress balls and cooling gel. Ouch! And that was it, it didn't take long. The nurse gave me a cold compress, then some aloe vera gel. She also admonished me to stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen and a hat. All in all I am very happy to be on this part of my journey. Although my face is marked with red bumps and lines, this should go down on the next few days. The nurse also remarked that I was responding well to the treatment, with lots of dead hairs coming out. I really hope this turns out well. I am so excited to be able to get rid of this hair!
