Elton….goosebumps

Earlier, my mother loved Neil Diamond. My father, Elton. He owned al of his albums, right from the beginning. I think “Empty Sky” was the first Elton album. I heard all the early ones, and the beautiful songs that most people don’t get to. The following is a link to one of my very favourite dual songs at the end of his 1975 album. That one was a bio. of his early days, writing with Bernie, leading up to the celebration of that first album. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. What a work they produced, after many superb albums. These are the last two tracks on there, as I said, from our family house, years ago. Full of music, always…

First song I really loved was Rocket Man on the album Honky Chateau, back around 1972.

Well Nicky, I can’t agree with you more, what an album. Just to make you frightfully jealous, I was on stage during a sound check with Elton, Davey, Nigel, Dee, Ray and Patrick in The Caird Hall, Dundee many years ago……….

Hi Nicky.  My favourite Elton album is Tumbleweed Connection.  I love the words "I take my horse and I ride the northern plains", actually about the American civil war.  Andrew from Bath

I've been a fan of Neil Diamond from way back and also a fan of Elton because I too, am a piano player!

Have Elton’s first 9 albums all on vinyl and still play them regularly. My personal favourites are the self titled album and Tumbleweed Connection. His collaboration with Bernie Taupin puts them in the pantheon of other singer/songwriter duos.

That’s wonderful, Chan, that you saw him. The early songs are a treasure trove to discover. Some lovely songs. Have you heard Skyline Pigeon? One of my favourites.

to Nickyhere : i agree the early songs and albums are a superb combination of lyrics and music  - i find  some of later works a bit formulaic and lacking in passion -one should try to maintain passion for as long as you can as lawrence durrell said he 'i wish you great passions and short lives' in fact he lived a long life but i think he did find great passions at least i hope he did
