How can the same thing basically, get so drastically different levels of respect?

Basically, it's a quest for men to get laid. Any behavior from women that's sex positive is seen in a positive light, (except by the conservatives). And any sexual behavior by men that falls sort of getting laid by his own ability to seduce with words and flirting is ridiculed. Yes, this is a competative male standard put forth by both men and feminists, and the feminists themselves show us the worst form of toxic masculinity. I see what you're observing and agree with you, but I personally just side-step it. I lead my public life in a "straight" way, and get my freak on with likeminded people on the down low. (But I don't lie and cheat. I'm not cool with that.) I'm used to not fitting in and don't expect it. I'm bi and love transwomen and crossdressers too. I'm not holding my breath waiting to be accepted, lol.

A very interesting dichotomy. I don't have a strong opinion about this, but I suspect that many of us too easily fall back on stereotypes to inform our perception & attitudes about gender roles & expectations. And, male masturbatory behavior has always been seen as a source of shame in Judeo-Christian societies, and much less so for girls and women regardless of the apparatus used.
