to DiamondJimBrady : Thank *you*! I almost never call anyone out -- I'll flag them, but I don't see that does anything -- but lately things have gotten even more absurd. I can understand the motivation behind SPAM and cam-phishing profiles -- clearly, they must be profitable to whatever degree makes it worth somebody's time to create and maintain, while doing little enough damage to the site's reputation they're not worth the cost of scrubbing out. But what I *don't* get are the faux sites for no discernible purpose where the faker has gone to the trouble of accumulating multiple images of the same model or creating a believable persona. (Dry runs for spies? Closeted MTF transsexuals? Incredibly subtle conceptual art?) There was one fake profile here where the faker was using images from a very large (400 - 600 images) collection I was able to locate. The photos were diverse enough she was able to match a number of requests fielded via her blog, telling the requester she had the photo taken just for him.

I'd always liked that there *were* quite a few authentic living, breathing, fucking human beings on xH -- and not just wave after wave of phony members maintained by an anonymous battery of junior sysads operating somewhere. In fact, a couple of weeks earlier, I had signed up on what appeared to be a legit contact site -- only to discover once my application had been approved there were *no* actual female members from San Francisco down past San Jose and only one other valid male -- this, out of the 400 to 600 profiles a search would reveal.

At least they made it possible to discover who was or was not authentic. A number of years ago, I'd joined a site guilty of similar fraud -- but with no way to find this out. It took me a number of weeks before I started seeing patterns in others' behavior. I was so disgusted by my having wasted -- well, *any* -- time interacting with shills I immediately cancelled my membership and set out to spread the bad word.

And it's possible Sara Jane *has* moved to SF. If so, I'll apologize fervently. But I fear she hasn't....
