Getting around locked down networks?

This sucks balls, just moved house and landed in a medium term lease with only network locked down internet access (except for the expensive wireless data I am chewing through every few days).

There is an ethernet cable in my room that I haven't checked to see if it is live yet. Have to dig out my old modem and see what flashes. Getting around the network locks doesn't seem feasible, but I have seen IT guys at old jobs with there own modems plugged into similar set-ups but probably tighter security on the network. They said having hard line access makes a huge difference. I am a ludite on this. Any ideas I would love to hear? So little time and so much porn to download and watch. Researched my ass \off and nada so far, seen a couple of short scripts from the dark web, but that scares the shit out of me without having knowledge of what is and isn't safe.
