John Burdett and Mysteries Set in Thailand

Put this post under the category of "Man does not live by porn alone." But I suppose it's sorta related to my love of all things Asian and especially from SE Asia. There's a series of books that I recommend to horny folks who have a similar interest. They are the books by John Burdett.

Burdett has written six books set in Bangkok's seedy nightlife with its principal character, Detective Sonshai Jitpleecheep (sounds like Sunshine Jip Tee Jeep). His books are about crimes in the dark recesses of Thailand. Our hero, Sonshai, is a devout Buddhist who is born of a Thai prostitute, now turned Mamasan and an American military officer, meaning that he is deeply conflicted and a complex character. In the book I just finished, Bangkok Tattoo, the story is about a CIA officer who is murdered in Thailand while looking for Al Qaeda, the Japanese mafia and the d**g trade. Another key character is a lovely woman for hire who goes from whoring in Thailand, to Texas in the massage parlor game then to Washington DC, where she moves into the diplomatic circles. And as the story evolves, its primary focus is on a Japanese tattoo artist of renown who is sought out not only for his craft but also for his own body-slash-canvass that even sports a depiction of the Battle of Midway (from the Japanese perspective) on his cock that comes to life when erect. So everywhere this fella goes, someone is stroking him hard to see the battle unfold. I won't say any more about the plot since it would turn into a spoiler alert. It is both erotic and suspenseful with wild twists and turns. The other book I read a few years ago was called Bangkok 8 and the first in the series. I plan to read the other four.

Having never been to Bangkok or Thailand, I really don't know anything about Thai culture other than seeing Hangover Part II and lots of Tuk Tuk Patrol videos. But jerking off to Tuk Tuk Patrol vids makes me an expert (I'm being sarcastic) on Thai prostitution as I long for a trip to Soi Cowboy and Pattaya, I think that Burdett researches the bar life of Thai ladies of the evening and the farangs that pay for it all. But get ready for terms like bar fine, mamasan, lady drink and short time are used frequently that most normal people would not know they're meaning. For us horny dudes that long to make the trip to SEA, it's good stuff.

I have now read two and can't wait to read some more. For those of you who are interested in Thailand and something other than porn, I strongly recommend Burdett's works. They are both fun and titillating. And, perhaps, maybe, after reading you can gain some insight into Thailand.

I've got a competing detective name for you, Bangkok police colonel Apichat Weeranwongaskul, who is a character in a BDSM erotic detective thriller by Lisabet Sarai - Bangkok Noir. I lstened to it on Audible, read by Jazmin Washington, whose voice I found very soothing and sexy.
