I love this. One of my dear friends from high school recently came out as gay. She was in a 30 year marriage and said "that was enough". She was hiding the fact she was gay her whole life and said no more! It's a bit of a struggle now for her but she can finally be herself and she is happy. I love her and will always be her biggest supporter.

Having many gay and lesbian friends, with and without families of their own, you see what strong individuals he/she/they are. Often round pegs in square holes in their communities,accepted by some, tolerated by most, hated by a few. It takes a special individual to live in certain places of our country and the world and be gay or lesbian. And let's not forget about the children of gay/lesbian couples..those with two dads or two moms. They too must be strong and deal with ridicule often. One word...TOLERANCE. I was in the airport waiting for the plane the waiting room was full of people and two girls in there 20s came in one with a suitcase and was obviously leaving they were holding hands and kissing they didn't care that people were watching them i thought it was a very sweet moment and they were proud of who they were..

Well said. Coming from a man who received his first kiss from his best friend who scared the hell out of me when she came out. She said she had something to tell me and My first thought was she had cancer. I was so relieved that it was simply her coming out. It did sadden me a bit that she was nervous about that but i can understand the pain and consternation that comes with having to validate yourself to people. (That is simple and pure B.S. you shouldnt have to validate to anyone who you are). We have been best friends for over 40 years and I love her dearly.
