The world renowned Eurovision competition took place on May 11 in Malmo, Sweden, drawing attention from viewers all around Europe. Our statisticians were happy to pull the data again this year to see how the event altered traffic patterns. With so many countries involved, they were not surprised to see the drops, and the inevitable increases after the competition! ‘
Traffic drops around the world
Switzerland took home 1st place this year, with the artist Nemo performing their song, The Code. The country saw a drop of –13.8%, while the runner up winner, Croatia, saw a much bigger drop of –23.3%. Ukraine came in 3rd place with a small drop of only –4.7%. France came in 4th place with –12.6% and Israel came in 5th place with a drop of –10.4%. In the host country of Sweden, traffic dropped – 11.2%.
Greece saw the largest decrease in traffic, with a drop of –27.6%. Other highly invested countries included Latvia, with a drop of –21.2% and Cyprus, with a drop of –19.6%. The country that seemed the least invested was the United Kingdom, with a very small –3.3% drop in traffic.

In the host country of Sweden, traffic remained a bit above average until 18:00 while their citizens snuck in a little afternoon delight before the big show. By 18:00, traffic to Pornhub began dropping, reaching a low of –13% by 23:00. By midnight, after the show, traffic started rising again, with a drop of only –4% below average. Afterwards, our statisticians saw a spike in traffic of +11% at 01:00 before dropping to –2% at 02:00.
Across Switzerland, traffic to Pornhub started dropping a little around 13:00 and remained that way until 20:00, when the numbers really started to change. By 23:00, traffic in the country was down –14%. Around midnight, after the competition ended, traffic started increasing to Pornhub, with a drop of –8%. By 01:00, when everyone returned home from the party, traffic saw a big increase of +16%. No doubt the Swiss were feeling good and wanted to celebrate their big win!
In Croatia, the runner-up country, traffic to Pornhub remained mostly stable until 19:00, when it dropped to –5% and then continued that downward trend until midnight, when it saw a huge drop of –30%. Immediately afterward, at 01:00, traffic jumped up +20% and remained above average into the early morning hours.
Traffic in Ukraine was up and down during the afternoon hours until 19:00, when it reached –1% and continued dropping to –7% at 23:00. By midnight, traffic was back up +4% and reached a high of +7% at 01:00 before stabilizing around 03:00.
France was the most focused on the competition. Traffic was below average all afternoon, reaching –9% at 20:00 and then –14% at 23:00. It was not until 01:00 that traffic was back to normal, with an increase of +1% and then +4% at 02:00.
Israel’s traffic remained slightly above average until 17:00. By 18:00 it was down –7% and continued to fluctuate until midnight, when traffic was down –12%. By 01:00, it shot up to +12% before dropping again at 02:00.
