Henrietta Lacks was a woman who had a different kind of tumor. In a nutshell, her cancer cells were able to produce a protein called telomerasis (sorry for some mispells, english is not my mother language). This protein can reconstruct the latest portion of a chromossome, the telomere (in portuguese, we call it "telômero"), which defines how many times a cell can divide. So, if you can produce this portion of the chromossome, the Dell can divide indefinitely, what makes the HeLa immortal.
