The Japanese "We're outta gas" move
I've been asked by people to talk about some of my many experiences in Japan. So here we go.
One of the more time honored traditions of getting play at home (albeit before my time) was the 'we're outta gas' move. It keeps you together for a little longer with the hopes of something happening. Or so I've been told, that wasn't really a move I could pull out of my bag of tricks in high school.
However there is something similar in Japan. Because Japan is train society everything is done according to train schedules. And the trains do not run 24 hours a day. Catching the last train home is something that every exchange student has experienced if you spent time in Tokyo, Osaka or any town in Japan. If you miss the last train, which usually runs around midnight, you'll have to hang out until the first train. The first train usually runs around 5:30 or 6 depending on the city you live in.
But therein lies the opportunity. When you are out on a date it's always good to see how anxious she is about the time. If she's checking her phone during karaoke to make sure she can catch her train, she's planning on leaving. If she is unconcerned about the last train then she plans to stay out all night. That's the moment of truth. If she misses the train then you can suggest going somewhere more private.
Making assumptions is not a good idea, but one idea that holds constant is if you convince her to miss the last train, it's usually so you can go to a love hotel for fun. I've had many pleasant evenings begin when I warn a date that she is about to miss her train and she gives me a smoky look and says "I know". It foreshadows a good time and lets me know that she is down for whatever.,
