Clothes Shopping

There will come a time where you will want to go out. And for these occasions you will want to dress the occasion. So don’t wear too short a skirt if this is not appropriate, and do not recommend you wear too frumpy a dress if you are going out clubbing.

Over the years I have managed to lose a small fortune in outer garments that just didn’t work. They were skirts that were too tight. Or blouses that were too tight or made my shoulders look too broad. Dresses that were just plain out ridiculous!

What I found was to start with a foundation of outer garments that are basic such as a nice black skirt or several black skirts of varying lengths and cuts. There are spandex stretch waist type skirts and then there is fitted skirts.
Figure out what your waist size is when you are dressed with your lingerie. Some persons might like to wear a corsette and you can lose a few inches with one cinched up.

I have found that dresses and blouses that can cover my shoulders work best. So when I am shopping, these are the kinds of things that I am looking for. Versus some spaghetti strap thing even though to this day I seemingly own a lot. So while I would love a spaghetti strapped thing, something that covers at least my shoulder makes me look more feminine.

Things that are sheer (see through) make for some nice looks. Underneath can be your bra and a camisole that can coordinate with a half slip (or full slip as the case may be).

Just like everything else, you are best to gather up what you want in the store, and go into the dressing room and try them on! You’ll be amazed at how much stuff YOU DON’T BUY! As if you take it home, you’ll just end up returning it and that can become a big waste of time. So I recommend you nip it in the bud and try it in the store. Again, you will find that you are not alone. Usually small boutique stores are great and are not so intimidating as would be a larger department store with 6 or so dressing rooms in it. So when shopping for women’s clothes, you may want to go down the not-so-beaten path. Regardless of how you feel, want to encourage you to try it on. No doubt you'll never see the clerk again.

Since I was in college, I’ve had a lot of fun going into thrift shops. They have a ton of stuff usually in almost new shape as otherwise they would reject it. So you can find blouses for $3, skirts for $3. And one thing, if your ears are not pierced, usually a nice collection of clip-on earrings that are difficult to find nowadays in traditional stores. A bag full of $50 worth of stuff at a Thrift store is like having $500 worth of stuff from a department store. Goodwill, Salvation Army, Amvets, and other thrift stores in your area is what I would recommend you check into. You probably won’t be able to try things on as easily, but if you go in with a tape measure (the kind you get at a fabric store) you can measure things (as usually a lot of tags have been removed) on the fly. So for example I go with a tape measure so that if I want to purchase a pair of jeans or a fitted skirt for example, I'll have a good idea whether it would fit or not. A waist size you think would fit you can sometimes be deceiving once you get home I've found.

For those items that do have sizes, then you’ll probably know, plus or minus, if it will fit or not. However one manufacturer's size Large for example could be another's size XL. And when you get home from a thrift store with a bag full of inexpensive items and it doesn’t fit or look right, you won’t be too distressed that you spent $3 versus $30 for a new blouse. Even then I’m sure the thrift stores would be more than willing to make an exchange for you.
Don’t forget that you will definitely benefit by accessorizing in the area of jewelry. You might want to get yourself a pair of sunglasses for when you have been partying out all night. Or get a belt, scarf or hat. Even a fashionable print pattern umbrella will make you feel and look sexy! Mine is a zebra print. And every woman will need a purse or two to compliment their wardrobe. You’ll want that purse to carry all of your basic make up items, along with driver’s license, cash, credit card, AAA card and mobile phone. Usually having at least one black purse and one brown purse will coordinate with most all of your clothes.

Shopping can be so much fun and so very rewarding!
