The Struggle
One leaf on the bare grey shore
Falters then dips, then rises some more,
Whipped by breezes, tattered and torn rest for a moment and again is airborne.
The leaf, once so green is now battered and dry
It cracks as it tumbles through white sand and sky
Fighting the current, the weather, the wind searching for something yet tossed without end.
One lonely person asking “What for?”
A spirit that falters then rises some more.
Whipped by the world, tattered and torn wonders a moment why he was born.
The man once so young and eager to fly now shakes as he stumbles and tries not to cry,
He’s fighting a battle he feels he can’t win searching for something, yet tossed without end.
One lonely person, one leaf, another shore
Each falters, each stumbles, but each rises once more
Each keep fighting, neither gives in
I’m searching for someone, that someone I had found, but I can’t let go
Dear God! I’m still hoping I’ll win.
