Adventure Time - part 1

Golden sunlight streamed through open windows. Fanned out on the floor in Jessica’s room, amid crumpled chip bags and empty soda cans, Claudia and Jessica lounged on beanbags, flipping through magazines and playing MTV in the background. The afternoon was passing with nothing really happening.
Finally, Jessica broke the silence. "Dude, I'm so freakin' bored. Like, insanely." She tossed aside her read.
Claudia stretched, and yawned: "What else is left for us to do?" Then she let herself fall back onto the bed.
A grin spread across Jessica's face. "How about something adventurous? Something totally outside our nerd bubble?"
Claudia propped herself up again on one elbow. "Like what? Skydiving? Bungee jumping?"
Shaking her head, Jessica clarified, "No extreme sports required. More along the lines of breaking free from our usual routine."
Claudia thought for a moment, "Remember when I told you about experimenting with alternative stress relief methods last semester?" At Jessica's nod, she continued, "Well, one of those involved smoking pot."
Jessica was shocked, "Seriously? You smoked weed?"
Emboldened by her friend's reaction, Claudia pressed ahead. "Yeah, it was pretty cool. Relaxing, calming...kinda nice, actually." She hesitated, then added, "Wanna give it a whirl sometime?"
For a moment, Jessica stared at Claudia before exploding in laughter. "Are you serious? Okay, fine, yes—but only if we promise to stay safe and responsible."
Thrilled by their mutual agreement, Claudia reveled in the knowledge that soon they would embark on a journey unlike any other...
