Discipline and punishment

I was recently chatting with a long time submissive friend of mine who is contemplating leaving her Dom of many years.. Her complaint was she is being taken for granted(not only a vanilla problem it seems lol). When I asked for some detail she said that he lets her get away with too much bad behavior and when he does call her on it that it is a weak response. She says the only punishment she receives anymore is a good spanking. No more lectures or cornertime, just a paddling and dismissal. Problem is she loves the spanking and finds herself acting out to get one... I told her my take on punishment is a lot more creative and she should just talk to him. Any thoughts?
